Six steps to add social media links to your Google Business Profile, which platforms Google accepts, and the link mistakes to check before you save.

To add social media links to your Google Business Profile, open your profile, choose Edit profile, then Contact. Next to Social profiles, press Edit, pick a platform, paste your link and save.

I checked these steps against Google’s own help page on 9 October 2026. Google may not show this option on every profile yet, and I cover that below.

In this guide

  1. Which social platforms Google lets you add
  2. How to add social media links to your Google Business Profile
  3. Which links I add for a trade business
  4. What to check before you save
  5. How to edit or remove a link

Which social platforms Google lets you add

Google’s help page lists seven platforms. They are Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, X (the site that used to be Twitter) and YouTube.

You can add one link for each platform. Google’s example is that you cannot add two YouTube links.

WhatsApp is not on Google’s list. I explain what that means for you further down.

You need to be signed in to the Google account that manages the profile. Here are the steps from Google’s help page:

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Select Edit profile, then Contact.
  3. Next to Social profiles, select Edit.
  4. Choose the platform from the dropdown.
  5. Paste your link into the Web address box.
  6. Select Save.

To add another platform, select Add social profile before you save.

Google says social links are only available in select regions and may not show on your profile yet. If you cannot see Social profiles, it is not something you have done wrong.

Google also says it does not give you figures on how often these links are clicked. You can only see how your social accounts do inside each social app.

I always add Instagram, because it is visual. I add TikTok if the business has it, and Facebook too. I also add WhatsApp.

In general, add every social platform the business really uses. Put the focus on the three main ones.

Google’s page does not list WhatsApp as a social profile, so I cannot tell you it goes in that box. Put your WhatsApp number on your website so customers can still find it.

If you only post on one or two platforms, add those and stop. Leave off any account you never use.

What to check before you save

Most problems I find are in the links, not in the steps. Check these three things.

  1. Has the handle changed? I always check whether the business has changed its social media handles. An old username leads nowhere, or to a stranger’s page.
  2. Is it the real profile address? On many profiles the link points at the bare site, such as instagram.com, because the full address was left out. It must include the username, like instagram.com/yourname.
  3. Is it the right domain? Facebook’s address is facebook.com. Google’s page shows the pattern for each platform, such as facebook.com/username and instagram.com/username.

Google also says a link will not save if it is broken, a duplicate, invalid or for a platform it does not support. If yours is rejected, look at those four things first.

Google may sometimes add a social link to your profile by itself. You can replace it with the right one.

To change a link, go to Edit profile, then Contact. Next to Social profiles, select Edit and put the new address in the Web address box. Then select Save.

To remove one, select Delete next to that profile and then Save.

If Google added a link and you want it gone with no replacement, you need to contact Google through its help page.

Quick tip. After you save, open each link on your phone in a private browser tab. If it does not land on your real profile, fix it that day.

What to do next
